IPI, ISRC, and ISWC Explained
In the global music ecosystem, identification is everything. Without proper identifiers, works cannot be tracked—and untracked works do not generate royalties.
EMRA supports and manages the key international identification systems that ensure your work is recognised worldwide.
The essential codes:
IPI (Interested Party Information):
A unique identifier assigned to creators and rights holders. It ensures that royalties are correctly attributed to the right individuals or entities.
ISWC (International Standard Musical Work Code):
Identifies the composition itself—the underlying musical work.
ISRC (International Standard Recording Code):
Identifies a specific recording of a work. Different recordings of the same song will each have their own ISRC.
Together, these codes form the backbone of global rights management. They allow societies, platforms, and licensing bodies to track usage across territories and distribute royalties with precision.
At EMRA, we simplify this complexity—ensuring your works are properly registered, globally identifiable, and fully monetised.
